Working with large cloud adopted organisations and speaking with peers in other sectors, all of which are large cloud adopters, we’re starting to see a bit of a pattern.
Most organisations are so focused on succeeding with projects building out their new applications or transforming their existing applications onto the cloud, the subject of ‘cost’ seems to be glossed over. They focus on the big outcome to their CIO/CEO, and their internal customers, “It’s on the cloud!” project success!
It seems obvious to us when looking at what’s been deployed, that it’s never been deployed in a cost effective manor, and is often the same cost as on-prem or even more in some scenarios. So looking at Cloud cost savings after ‘go-live’, is often where to start.
In fact looking at RightScale’s latest ‘State of the Cloud’ report, from the 1000’s of already Cloud adopted respondents surveyed, ‘Optimising existing cloud use (cost savings)’ was their number one Cloud initiative.
There are some great tools out there, both cloud provider supplied and 3rd party, at Broad Cloud Consult we’ve personally compared about 6 of them to find what I believe is the ‘pick of the bunch’. So if there are some great tools out there, and we have organisations spending far too much on the Cloud with so much ‘Waste’, why are they not using these tools to optimise (some are even free), why is it not as integral to IT as say, having some Service Desk software?
Maybe there is a missing link between the tools and the expertise to deliver the final outcome of ‘Cost visibility, optimisation and governance’.
This is where our specialised service comes in.
But we’re still interested in your view, what do you believe the ‘State of Cloud Cost Management’ is?
Have you looked at the tools out there, what’s your conclusion?
Would you consider using an experienced service provider like Broad Cloud Consult to deliver the final outcome of Cost visibility, optimisation and governance? Or would you prefer to run the project perhaps at a slower pace internally?
Would you consider a one off CAPEX engagement to put the tools and process’s in place, or a lower cost OPEX monthly ‘service’ to provide the outcome?
